Docents

Docents at the North Carolina Museum of Art appreciate the arts and understand their transformative potential. Every week they have opportunities to spark curiosity and offer in-depth understanding to visitors, both in the galleries and out in the Park.

Volunteer docents at the NCMA facilitate conversations and guide groups of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities through the Museum on a daily basis. They remain the go-to organization for groups visiting the NCMA from across the state and country to learn about the NCMA’s art collection.

The Museum provides docents with regular training and learning opportunities that explore strategies to keep Museum tours engaging, fun, and relevant for all NCMA visitors. New docents commit to one year of initial training with Museum staff. During this time they become part of a focused learning community that values collaboration, skill-set expansion, and, of course, art!

If you would like to volunteer as a docent for the North Carolina Museum of Art, please email the manager of tour experiences at md.hall@dncr.nc.gov.
